Well Dave,
I beg to differ - it looks like DC Mayor Williams has the votes as
well as support from flip-flopping COncil Member Linda Croppe.
I'm fairly confidant that no matter what happens, there will be
baseball in DC in 2005. Now, if the mayor and the COuncil screw it up
- 2006 could be a different story.
As for the minority owners' suit, that's all about money. If that
group of owners wins, then they'll get cut in to the sales of Les
Expos to a DC ownership group. If that group could have afforded the
Expos, they would have bought them out years ago. Les Expos can't go
back to Montreal and be owned by MLB another year. Montreal got
screwed by MLB in 94 and again in 98 when they tried to contract the
team, so, the fans rolled over and died and took the team with them.
The Twins still draw 1.9Million fans.
I'm not denying that there aren't baseball fans in MOntreal - you
sound like one - there just aren't enough of them.
