Depends what they can get for him. If you get an almost-as-good starter
making, say, $5 million, then your team as a whole is better for having
made the trade, since you'd have that $7.5 left over to go get somebody.

Yes, but you're a Cubs fan. I think the Cubs should trade Mark Prior
and get Don Baylor back as their manager, but you don't see me
blabbing about it in the cubs newsgroup. >> Stay informed about: Only 4 'Untouchables' - Izzy, Pujols, Renteria, Rolen - ev.. |

LOL. Actually I thought my comment was really from a Cardinal fan
perspective. I was being objective. I didn't say they should trade
Pujols because he's likely to have a down year in 04. <g> Can't a Cub fan
come in here and have a civil baseball discussion? Are you that insecure
about your little NG? <g> At least I'm not trolling like Lance!!
If you go back and look at Williams' outings since early June he was very
inconsistent and then near the end of the year he just started looking
tired. He's pretty darned old. It's not likely he's going to be better
next year. He'd probably make a solid 4th or 5th starter for someone next
year but I just don't see him being a 2-3 guy next year. Maybe he'll
suprise me. If he does I hope it's with an AL team.
Morris, on the other hand, is the closest thing the Cardinals have to a
go-to-guy next year. Trading him woud be incredibly stupid. Who are they
going to get that will be as solid as him? Pettitte, Maddux, Those guys
will likely command more than Morris is making. >> Stay informed about: Only 4 'Untouchables' - Izzy, Pujols, Renteria, Rolen - ev.. |

My guess is that they are upset that he did not do a better job of
intentionally losing those games against the Astros. Well, slightly more
seriously, Morris is due $12.5M in 2004, and LaRussa has shown he will
push Morris harder than he should. Of course he will do the same to
Isringhausen, who is due a lot of money in 2004 and 2005, but LaRussa
has messed up Isringhausen only once.
This quote from Jocketty regarding 2003 pitching acquisitions is such
horse-bleep that it could fertilize all the corn fields in Nebraska: "A
lot of that had to do with who was available," Jocketty said. "I believe
there are going to be a lot more impact arms available the next several
months. It's a much more attractive market."
No, Walt, the problem was you, Tony and Dunc all thought Simontacchi,
Tomko, Fassero, Springer, Hamilton, Yan, and Borbon actually could get
people out. Pitchers like Jeff Suppan, Matt Herges, Kerry Ligtenberg,
Steve Reed and Flash Gordon were available at reasonable prices. It did
not help that the Brain Trust had no clue about decent internal options
Al Levine, Nerio Rodriguez, Dustin Hermanson (he is not a reliever,
though it is possible Simo could be), Mike Crudale and Jim Journell.

I may agree with you, but I thought the same thing going into this season.
I was dead wrong. Depends on the $$$, but I think I might be leaning on
keeping WW around.
Do we sign claim Ramirez and release Drew? I'd love to have him, hothead or
not.

Of course why would another team, aside from the Yankees maybe, make
that trade? Especially if Tino comes attached.

Pujols is a franchise player, and unless they can get better (and 2
better for one), he should not
be dealt.
Williams worked the most innings of just about any NL pitcher. The over
work is really his problem. Morris is having his Pre Kile days of losing
focus/concentration, and that is his problem. Both Williams and Morris
played with injuries. I would keep both, because I don't see anything grown
on the farm. The following:TKevin Millwood, Sidney Ponson, Bartolo Colon,
Andy Pettite and Greg Maddux
are free agents. Go after two of the above. Millwood would be a great
addition.
Another problem with the cards has been the bullpen,Right Field and First
Base. They need three top noch long and three top noch short relievers. They
need a power person at first (or if Pujols is at first a power Left
fielder), and a solid "injury free" Right Fielder with power.
