I was going to write about how the loss of Neshek has come back to
haunt the Twins, esp. when they play a good team, but LaVelle E. Neal
III of the Star Tribune did so last night.

http://ww3.startribune.com/blogs/neal/2008/07/09/the-twins-do-not-have...-eighth

Matt Guerrier is not the guy. He does not have an overpowering
fastball, his slider is so-so, and while his curveball is nice, you
can't throw them too often or batters will sit on it.

Jesse Crain? Yeah, maybe.

According to the article, a Twins official said the Twins were looking
at acquiring a setup man. Raphael Bettancourt of the Indians has been
mentioned but I hope they don't get him. While mostly effective, he is
like a delay of game taking about 30 seconds between each pitch.

Agreed. With Neshek out, there's just nobody in the pen I feel really
confident about to pitch the 8th. If this team stays in the race and
does decide to make a move, that would be the hole to plug.

Yes. If only Juan Rincon were still here. But, alas . . . ; )

Well, maybe you have noticed the restraint I have shown over the past
several days. But since you bring it us, has anyone noticed his north-
of-.300 average? He is an asset this (half) year, no question (in my
mind).

I've noticed your restraint. I must admit, he's been playing excellent
baseball lately. This year, he's started rallies rather than kill
them.

Yes, lately I've even noticed that I don't dread when Punto is
at the plate in close games or clutch situations....well, not as
MUCH, anyway. Wink
