What's up with Brandon Inge? Is he as lousy as he looked this weekend?

Friday night he dropped a routine grounder. Then he dropped Rondell's
soft liner. He got spiked and didn't apply the tag on a Punto triple.
He missed a foul pop up next to the railing. On a play at third base on
Saturday he was about two feet away from being in the proper position
for a tag. He's second in the AL with most errors at 3B
(surprise--A-Rod leads the league) Inge looked pathetic.

What's the Tiger's fans opinion on Inge?

look beyond the fielding percentage. his total chances and assists are well
ahead of all other 3rd basemen, and he's third in putouts. I've seen a lot
of better than average 3rd basemen in my time who occassionally boot the
easy one. Add to all that the fact that, in reality, he's still learning a
new position, and I'm more than willing to go into next season with Inge at
3rd.

fine by me. just have a look at this;
compare Inge to the 3rd baseman closest in games started (Mora of
Baltimore):

Inge has 485 total chances to Mora's 366, 347 assists to Mora's 265, and 119
putouts to Mora's 90.
How about the same categories for the 3rd baseman with the best fielding
percentage among those with at least 130 starts?
That would be Lowell of Boston, with 415 tc, 281 a and 128 po (probably
caught more foul flies).
AND, how about the guy who's getting the Gold Glove buzz, Joe Crede?
418, 307, and 101, with a fielding percentage 10 points lower than the
league leader...

In case your not getting the point, what all of this tells you is that Inge
has superior range to any 3rd baseman in the AL today.

Good points. I see that he's appeared in all but four of the Tiger's
games this year. Maybe he needs a rest because he looked awful this
weekend.

Inge is a gamer. When the Tigers win the World Series Inge will be there.
