In this list , these players did something in common: there are perhaps 100
more players on this list, so they are NOT the only ones. (hint: these are
listed in a chronological order):

-ralph terry
-bobby richardson
-gary carter
-mitch williams
-chad curtis
-darin erstad

Most recently, Josh Beckett.

Was that THAT easy? (players who touched the last baseball for a given
baseball season). WTG Don...

...thinking about this more, I wanted to find out the last game that ended in
strike shortened '94 to see who made the last play/touched the last ball;
that wouldve thrown a brutal curve into this list...

As I recall, the Mets game went into extra innings and was the last game
to end before the strike.

On that day (August 11, 1994) there was one west coast game (Mariners at A's),
and that was the last game to finish. (Randy Johnson pitched a complete game
for the Mariners, striking out 15, and the M's won 8-1)

It's still amazing to contemplate that at the time the season came to an abrupt
end, the Rangers were winning the AL West with a 52-62 record.

Maybe that was why Commissioner BS cancelled the World Series; he
didn't want his new and improved postseason to be blighted with a
sub-.500 team the first time out.

It's a lot less likely to happen now, with the unbalanced schedule.
We could still have a team as bad as those Rangers in the playoffs,
but not with a record that bad.

Expos versus Yankees for the WS...lost forever. Sad

the unbalanced schedule made it less likely, but there could still be a
sub-.500 team and a way sub-.500 team at that in the playoffs. like 75-87
bad.

it would require the intradivisional foes playing each other to virtual
stalemates; 10-9, 9-10, 11-8, 8-11, etc. then the division would have to
get pounded by all the non-divisional foes and interconference teams.

a really bad, but evenly-matched division would do the trick.

I cling to the notion that he didn't want to chance a 3-peat for "The
Great White North". Smile
