Standard Yahoo 5x5 point scoring non keeper league. I currently am in front
of the other guy by 17 points, 87-70.


I give up Smoltz, Frank Thomas and Lofton

I get Sosa, Giambi and Borowski

I like the trade even though I lose Smoltz. I still have Rivera and Worrell
so adding Borowski will help a bit.
Thomas and Lofton were added on after the season started anyway.

Getting Giambi at 1B is a biggy since Thomas isn't giving me enough stats
there.
I will end up with a lot of power adding these guys to Bonds and Helton.


So?? sounds good?

If you've been offered this trade, jump now. Giambi beats Thomas in 4 of 5
categories even with a slow start, if he picks up this is a steal. Sosa is
certainly well better than Lofton. With your backup relievers, the loss of
Smoltz is more than compensated by gains in hitting -- especially power.

I agree, but would put it a little differently:

Giambi > Thomas, as you said
Borowski = Lofton, as both are slightly over replacement level in a shallow
mixed league
Sosa >= Smoltz, assuming that Sosa can still hit without cork
