Can this team get that many wins?

It's gonna be tough, since although Jays did make some needed
improvements, so did Boston, Baltimore and Tampa Bay.

The Yankees are the Yankees, and even though they lost Clemens, Wells
and Pettite, they are still the team to beat.

I think it is possible. Last year Cash caught a few games and hit
about as bad as possible, if he does that again up will come the
rookie catcher Quirnoz (not sure of the spelling). The pitching will
be much better than last year, it could be 1/2 to 1 run better per
game which would equal anywhere from 8 to 16 more wins. Delgado and
Wells might be worse, Myers will be worse. Hinske will be better,
Phelps also, and if Johnson flops in the OF there are at least 3
prospects ready to step in. If the pitching stalls there are a few
prospects that will be ready by mid-season at the latest, although JP
wants to keep them down all season I'm sure (delay arbitration
clocks). No need for big mid-season trades when all the help they
should need is right there in AAA.

2004 will be the big year for JP. If 90+ wins are achieved he'll look
like a genius. If they don't get at least 85 wins he'll look bad.
SHould be interesting.

I think it's going to be tough to get 94-96 wins, even with the all the
positive additions like you said the other teams get stronger. And unlike
the Jays, if the Red Sox or Yanks stumble out of the gate they can always
trade for more salary heavy players. I can't wait for the season, I can't
even make a prediction right now. There's one side of me that thinks the
Jays are going to shock the baseballworld community and get the wild card
but the other side of me can see this team actually winning less games than
last year.
