I work in an office building in a nice part of Scottsdale (on the border
with PV) that's absolutely infested with stock brokers.

Today, I was getting a sandwich at the cafe in our building and on my way
out, I swear I passed Todd Stottlemyre coming in to get some lunch.

Didn't I hear somewhere that Stott had become a stockbroker? Or maybe he
was just meeting with his broker today and the broker proved how frugal he
is with Stott's money by taking him to lunch at the cafe in our building.

The TV crew did a sit-down with Stottlemyre before the season in which it
was related that Todd scratches his competitive itch (and what a lovely
metaphor, that) as a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch; the team site has
a similar profile from last fall on the former DBack righty:

If that address breaks in posting, the story is linked about two-thirds of
the way down on this page:

So that explains it. Merrill Lynch has a decent-sized office in one of
the buildings in our complex (but so do about a dozen or so other
brokerages, hence the infestation). Penny Hardaway's office is in another
building (or was--come to think of it, I don't know if he's maintaining an
offseason home here or not since the trade).

The guy who came into the cafe with Stott noticed me staring, so I'm sure
he commented to Stott after I left that he'd been made. Oh, and it
doesn't help that I was wearing my black D-Backs' Antigua golf shirt today
(the one with the copper-colored snake in the shape of a script capital
D).

BTW: Today was a *particularly* appetizing day to eat in that cafe (the
food is good, BTW). The landlord is tearing up and replacing the sidewalk
and parking lot pavers in front of the cafe, making it tough to get in and
out this week, but the capper was the tar cooker out front that some
roofer was using to seal roof leaks. The smell wafted into the cafe every
time the door opened. The owner commented that he was doing his damnedest
to overpower that smell by frying a lot of bacon. He was only partially
successful.
