Former Oakland A, big guy, sat on the bench a lot although '89 was his "big"
year with us, appearing in 42 games. (I vaguely remember him, but had to
google to refresh my memory).

Go Pads !

I think I vaguely recall him now as well. Lefty hitter?

One of my college roommates went to high school with him. That's
probably not interesting to anybody; it's barely interesting to me.

I'm amazed at how many players of recent vintage I've managed to
forget. I don't know if it's a natural part of getting older, or if
alcohol is involved, but I have a clearer mental image of most obscure
early-80s Padres than I do of some guys who have played since they
moved to Petco.

I've followed the team pretty closely since 1969, and I'm still amazed how
many players there are who I can't recall--but 40 years IS quite a few years
and individuals to remember. That's why I like Retrosheet--everything is
linked so that you can do a quick brush-up on players, etc.

Seapig:

It's not the alcohol. I'm a non-drinker, and there are names
mentioned in almost all these, "Days in Padre history" that
ring absolutely no memory bells for me.

Yep, a big guy who rode the pine behind some guy named McQuire in Oakland
before coming south. Not like that was kept him from being a star though,
he hit 4 HRs in his 5-year career.
