Padres 9, Phillies 3

First baseman Wally Joyner goes 2 for 4, with a triple, run, and 3 RBI to
lead San Diego past Philadelphia, 9-3. Left fielder Reggie Sanders and
center fielder Ruben Rivera each have 3 hits, and both Rivera and shortstop
Damian Jackson have solo homers for the Padres. Starter Sterling Hitchcock
(2-1) throws 6-2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs and 10 hits to get the win.

Catcher Mike Lieberthal leads Philadelphia with 3 hits, and Rico Brogna, Ron
Gant, and Bobby Abreu have 2 apiece. Starter Chad Ogea (2-2) haves up 9
hits and 3 runs in 5 innings to take the loss.

At: Veterans Stadium
Attendance: 11,032
