Padres 11, Astros 2



San Diego starter Dennis Rasmussen (6-2) pitches a 4-hit complete game,
allowing 1 earned run and 4 walks while striking out 4. Right fielder Tony
Gwynn goes 3 for 4 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI. Left fielder Shawn
Abner and shortsthop Garry Templeton each have a home run for the Padres.



Houston starter Jim Deshaies (3-3) lasts only 4 innings, giving up 7 hits, 7
earned runs, and 4 walks. Right fielder Eric Anthony leads the Astros'
offense, going 2 for 4 with a solo home run.



Padre record and standing: 27-24, 2nd place, 8 games behind Cincinnati.



At: Jack Murphy Stadium

Attendance: 16,941
