Today in Padre History

Padres 7, Cubs 1



San Diego has 5 hits and scores all of its runs in the 2nd inning to beat
Chicago, 7-1. For the game, center fielder Thomas Howard has 3 hits,
including a double, and left fielder Darrin Jackson has 2 hits and 2 RBI.
Starting pitcher Andy Benes (3-6) throws 8 innings, giving up 4 hits, no
runs, no walks, and striking out 2 to get the win.



Chicago left fielder George Bell has 1 hit and the Cubs' lone RBI. Starting
pitcher Bob Scanlan (2-2) lasts only 1-2/3 innings, is charged with all 7
runs, and takes the loss.



Padre record and standing: 27-25, 3rd place, 2.0 games behind Los Angeles.



At: Wrigley Field

Attendance: 32,712
