inning to defeat Chicago, 9-1. Center fielder Ruppert Jones leads the way
with 2 hits, including a 3-run homer in the 3rd inning. Other batting
leaders include shortstop Gary Templeton (3 hits, double) and first baseman
Broderick Perkins (2 hits, triple, 3 RBI). Starting pitcher John Montefusco
(3-4) throws 5 innings to get the win, and Eric Show pitches the final 4
innings to earn his 2nd save.
No Cub has more than 1 hit, but catcher Jody Davis and shortstop Larry Bowa
each have a triple. Starter Randy Martz (4-4) gives up 7 hits and 8 runs in
2-1/3 innings.
