I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Sheffield complains
about not getting enough playing time and he's put on waivers the same
day as he hits two home runs in a losing cause. Par for the season.
Willis gets promoted to AAA and Tigers take a chance and sign 33 year
old pitcher Freddie Garcia who hasn't pitched in nearly a year and is
coming off of shoulder surgery. He'll be debuting in Lakeland.
And do add to the implosions, Tigers are now 3-8 for the month of
August and 11-14 since the All Star break. Not the way to get back
into a race which is all but over for the Tigers now. Most of the
blame for the losing has to be put on the pitching staff with only
Galaraga having a decent season. The offense was slow to produce runs
at the beginning of the season but has improved since June.
Tigers are now back to 3 games under 500 but with Cleveland
dismantling its staff (Sabbathia, Byrd, Blake) and the Royals settled
back into their familiar last place spot, it looks like the Tigers
will have a lock on 3rd place in the AL Central which only means they
wont finish last.
Bah Humbug!

Just for the record, many good pitchers have been highky successful after
shoulder surgery.
And Sheffield? Attitude problem. Worse than Manny (and not as productive).
Don't let the door hit you in the ass, Sheff.

I was never crazy about the Sheffield deal but figured he would do fine as
long as things went well and he didn't complain. Well, here we are, he is
starting again. When things get tough, Sheffield starts crying like a
whiney b*tch.
As you say, careful of the door... Although, I dont' see anyone claiming
him or trading for him. >> Stay informed about: Tigers Imploding |

I'll bet somebody will. Rumor had the R Sox wanting him. The Rays have taken
some injury hits this week. We'll see...

I see that what I initially read here is misleading. Sheffield was placed on
waivers, not released......

The way the Tigers are playing, I wouldn't even give them the lock
on 3rd place in the division. The dismantled Indians might catch up
or surpass them soon.

Jays make the most sense to me. I would do it if I were them, he can be
decent IF he's happy, he only has 1 more year and they need the bat with
Crawford And Longoria out. Red Sox? I don't know if that would be a good
match. We will see. >> Stay informed about: Tigers Imploding |

In addition, I do not believe he is worse than Manny. Sheffield
always plays hard whether he is a DH or in the outfield unlike Manny
who shut it down for games when he wasn't happy. While I'm not
thrilled by Sheffield's attitude, it is at least powered by a desire
to do more and not renegotiate a contract.
I agree with the size of his contract I don't see anyone claiming him
off of waivers unless the BoSox or Angels have one of their big guns
go down with a season ending injury.

I'm sure you mean Rays as in Tampa Bay and not Jays as in Toronto. I
forgot about Tampa's injury woes in my first post but they do make a
little sense. I doubt Sheffield could replace Longoria at 3rd and
Crawford was replaced in left by Hinske who is doing pretty well with
a bat right now. Aybar has replaced Longoria at 3rd but Longoria will
be back before the season ends.

Career numbers say otherwise. And, as far as attitude, Manny is just Manny.
He doesn't spout off about other players or groups of players.

LOL, yeah Rays. Where the the "J" come from?
Well, he can replace Crawford and Hinske, who has played 3rd before, can go
in for Longoria. I think it would be a perfect fit. BUT I have no idea how
the $$$ works in Tampa, although they have to spend a bit more being this
close in my opinion. >> Stay informed about: Tigers Imploding |

IIRC, Hinske was RoY as a third baseman.
