most telling stat is that the tigers are 0-23 when they score less than five
runs in a game. If a "quality start" is 3 or less ER in 7 inning span the
Tigers SP has been the culprit. Bullpen has been doing its job for the most
part. For the sake of argument lets say that the Tigers won 1/3 of these
games instead of none their record world be 23-18 instead of 16-25. This
would place the tigers in first in the Central division. If they just would
have gotten some quality SP...
....in all my years following baseball I have never seen a SP staff be cursed
with such inefficiency. To my knowledge none of the current SP on roster are
battling injury which leads one to interpret their poor performance is just
that. >> Stay informed about: Tiger's problems |

Two years ago the pitching was in the top 3 in the league. I don't know
that DD would've thought he needed pitchers 2 years later. >> Stay informed about: Tiger's problems |

The Tigers pitching was suspect last season, and with the injuries
to the bullpen, more attention should have been paid to the pitching
staff, rather than paying Cabrera so much, IMO.
Also, Willis wasn't an answer to anything. He had one decent season,
and that may have been a fluke.

While Willis may not be the solution, surely he isn't the cause of all
of this lack of hitting and sometimes embarrassing pitching. >> Stay informed about: Tiger's problems |

No, not at all. I didn't even imply Willis was part of the problem.
I just implied that he is probably not part of the solution.

Not wanting to be the party pooper but if the Tigers are not at .500 by the
beginging of June the season will be slipping away. The only reason I tend
to hesitate is that no one team has seperated itself from the pack, that is
why the Tigers, with their poor performance in 2008 are only 6 games out of
first place. With Cleveland comming on the Tigers will need to get their
program together now.

Dombrowski knew Tiger pitching needed help based on the way the second
half of the season unfolded last year. Hence he went out and got
Willis. Probably should have done more.
