Ticket prices have increased 69 per cent from the last year of Qualcomm. Yet
the player payroll has increased by one half of one percent over the same
period. The behavior of Padres ownership does not warrant an active fan
base.

If someone can locate a link that disputes this, please post.

Thank you.

According to the USA Today, the 2008 payroll is $73,677,616; in 2003
it was $45,210,000. That's about a 63% increase.

Well done. So the Padres payroll has increased significantly more than the
Dodgers, D-backs or Rockies over this 5-year span.

Kudos.

The raw increase in payroll means nothing by itself. It has to be weighted
against the increase in revenue (significant) and the increase in
operational costs (also significant) before it's illustrative of anything.

It means nothing to me if it's not reflective of on-field results.
Would the people complaining about the payroll be happier if the Pads
had been spending like the Dodgers and Giants the past few years, with
similar results?
