This team is comprised at the hand of..........

Jim Bowden
Brad Kuhlman
Dan O'Brien
Wayne Krivsky
Walt Jocketty
Jack McKeon
Bob Boone
Ray Knight
Dave Miley
Jerry Narron
Pete Makanin
Dusty Baker

The roster and subsequent play on the field, strongly reflects it.

I don't think there's any link left to Knight. Junior was here when McKeon
left, but Jack made it pretty clear he didn't approve of the trade. Probably
the least classy thing junior did as a red was leave before Jack's last
game.

Everybody else can have some of the blame.

Wasn't Knight an interim manager after Boone was let go. And he pissed
everybody off and pretty much eliminated himself?

You are indeed "the man." Baseballreference shows knight as having managed a
couple of games in 03.
Junior, Dunn, Freel, Harang and Belisle would have all been there.

Not that that invalidates your point.

Very frustrating team to follow. They get to 1 game under .500 and get your
hopes up, and then go on a road trip and throw it all away. Just when you
think they've got it going, they fall back.

Yes. He was 1-0 the day they fired Boone and while they waited for Miley
to arrive from Louisville.

>And he pissed everybody off and pretty much eliminated himself?

That was the first time around, when he took over after being the
Manager Elect to Davey Johnson.

He managed only one as an interim manager, though. The other was filling
in for either Boone or Miley. Can't recall which.

Now that you bring it up...

I think he did the same thing Bucky Dent did. Where he thought he was the
obvious choice to replace one manager and when he wasn't given the chair
quite the organization. I'm not sure.

I don't recall for certain. Did Mark Berry fill the bench coach role the
rest of 2003, then move to 3B in 2004?

No. There is always a mix of power between the GM and the manager. For
the last....(Pete/Narron/Miley/Boone...)four reds managers, the GM's
have been making too many decisions that affect the 25 man roster and
the team on the field. They cried about money with McKeon, but my guess
is that this kind of tension went back to then (and even further back)

Bowden wanted yes-men in the positition of manager.

> With regards to this organization, Dusty needs less power. Wasnt it

Patterson, Hairston and Bako all had Dusty connections. You can't give
him just the blame for Patterson without giving him credit for Hairston
and Bako.

Again my problem with Patterson isn't that they have him on the 25. It
was that he's continued to bat too high in the order. They swapped Bruce
in at the right time and unless you are a real Chris Dickerson believer,
Cory isn't blocking a more deserving candidate.

Now, 3 million is also crazy, but that clearly isn't Dusty's fault.
