I don't understand why Piniella is getting the credit? This group has consistently considered the manager as having little to no influence on the teams won-lost record and given me a hard time for placing a majority of the responsibility on management (80%).
Jim Hendry made a good selection in Dusty Baker. Dusty Baker made stubborn decisions as Cubs manager and the results speak volumes. Lou Piniella uses the entire organization to build teams that will produce for many years.
That is a valuable attribute of his management ability and the Cubs management team.
Time to enjoy the ride?
GEO.

How 'bout them Cubs????
They give the Brewers 5 runs in the first inning....shut them out the
rest of the way....and Cubs win 6 to 5 in the 9th thanks to Ramirez (and
others).
Sure must make Hill feel better after giving up 5 in the first and only
going 3 innings (something like 90 pitches)....plus great pitching by
the bullpen.
Finally beginning to look like a Lou Piniella team.

typical Brewer game, shoot our wad early, can't do anything after seen this
for years
Congrats Cubs on the win, picked you in spring training, didn't figure on
our fast start or your slow start, but I think things will start coming
together for you. By August 1st, Brewhahas will have finally choked away
lead and Cubs should win division. But, remember too, you're the best of the
worst, hopefully you can carry it over in playoffs.

duster would have never played pie, theriot or fontenot. lou's playing
people who are playing well. finding places for the hot bats, and
making sure big jim brought him back an excellent defensive center
fielder (who needs time in at the plate). i am wondering (not that
this is the reason for the cubs playing better) what is the cubs
record since lou's blowup and suspension? i think its pretty good. and
this 7 game win streak helps alot im sure.
too bad the brewers have stayed hot during this mini-run the cubs have
put together. >> Stay informed about: Way Ta Go...Aramis |

yes I am as I said this game is a typical Brewer game, when they have

The Cubs' record when Lou did the kicking hat bit was 22 and 31.
Their record since that event is 17 and 8 resulting in a 39-39 record as
of 6/30.
