So Swisher's number came up. Sucks to lose him, he's a good player and fun
to root for.
But as has already been noted, there seems to be a general feeling that the
A's got great prospects in the deal, which is very encouraging.
This is the sort of trade that A's fans have seen throughout the team's time
here in Oakland. True A's fans came to terms with that reality long ago,
accepted it, and have been rewarded greatly. Most recently, the A's
followed this philosophy all the way to the ALCS just 15 months ago.
Go A's!

With a healthy return by most of last year's injured veterans, and
some maturation from the young stars we got to know last year, the A's
could field a very strong major league roster. Plus they now/again
have one of the most impressive minor league organizations in the
game. Yup, seems like business as usual in Oakland, and I'm ready to
root the living hell out of 2008. >> Stay informed about: Swisher's Turn |

And I'm ready to root the living hell out of 2008 for whatever players
survive to play for the A's that season, and I'll continue to root
against their cheap ownership.
I'm aware that the A's got to the 2006 ACLS, and I'm also aware of
what has since happened to the players who got them there.
And I'm aware that ownership is operating the ballclub as a farm team
for other organizations and as the centerpiece of a real estate scam
in and near Fremont. Of course other MLB ownerships operate ballclubs
as adjuncts to their real businesses--for example the brewery or the
shipping or the car lot--but some even invest in the ballclub
occasionally, actually paying market-based salaries to gain and
maintain good players,

Whew!!
And here I'd thought they'd trade someone that could hit at the big league
level like Crosby, Chavez or Kotsay. At least we still have all the solid,
everyday players who don't get hurt.

Well, to find some brightness, we still have Cust, Johnson, Ellis, Crosby,
Chavez, and a couple others. Of course, we'll have to root for many of them
to get off the DL a lot. While these latest trades greatly anger me, I'm
not become a non fan. I tried that when the Raiders moved south, but it
didn't work (I knew they'd eventually be back). Once a big fan, I can't
just stop. I don't know about you all, though.

Where they got swept.
Your Pollyanna approach is nice, but there's little chance the A's
will finish above fourth place in the AL West this year. That's pretty
sad considering they did have HFA for that ALCS just 15 months ago,
and their owner is a billionaire who won't spend any money on his
team. >> Stay informed about: Swisher's Turn |
