This is getting ridiculous. At least they won, but come on. Santana pitching
against the worst team in the league and it's a NAIL BITER????
Winning run driven in by a hit helmet? Can you really make this stuff up?

I was at the game, and they didn't show any replays to speak of. Did
the pitch actually hit the helmet? Not that it mattered, since the
run was going to score anyway on the (very) wild pitch.

It looked like it did but, at least, it wasn't anything like Achta was
trying to convice the umps that it was way too high to hit the
helment. One thing for sure, it was very obvious that it did not hit
the bat.

So that's what a save looks like.
I'd just about forgotten.

Yes, it was obvious on TV. You could even hear it.

Also, when EAsley took first base he was speaking to someone and you
could see him mouth the words, "It hit my helmet."

If the Mets were a really good team, they would walk all over the
Nationals.

Our problem right now is we have no bullpen.

And unless there is some miracle waiver wire magic that Minaya can
suddenly weave, the only help the Mets can hope for is something from
within.

My friend (also Bill) said it's like a Dodger crowd, gets there late,
leaves early.

Given the mob at the Metro Station, I can understand why.

I was also there and they didn't seem to show any replays that
might be controversial (like the HBP and the close play at
first). But isn't that kind of standard at ballparks? You don't
want to give the fans ammunition to boo the umpires.

BTW, Pedro Martinez is still a major fan favorite. He was the
only Met throwing balls into the stands during batting practice
(and quite a few). Sadly, we had moved from the bleacher area to
the 3rd base line and did not get any balls Sad.

Oh, and do Nats fans always leave the game while it's tied or
their team is just down by one run? I couldn't believe how many
people were leaving in the 6th and 7th innings.

Yes, that is what I thought of also.

Actually, it wasn't all that bad. We left after the end of the
game (although I had threatened to leave if they blew the 4-3
lead) and although it was crowded, we got right onto the
platform and got on the next train. Sadly, we then had to wait
15 minutes to transfer for the red line, and the platform there
was getting pretty crowded as several trains had arrived with
game attendees. I'd have expected them to do a better job with
the connections given that they did such a good job getting you
out of the ballpark station.

We went to the "back" station entrance, and it wasn't too bad. The
main entrance was overwhelmed, it appeared. Much worse than getting
on the 7 at Shea, I thought.

My friends were getting on the Orange Line, which was L'Enfant Plaza.
It looked crowded there, too. I got off at Gallery Place, the
transfer point for the Red Line, and saw the mob trying to head
towards Rockville. My hotel was across the street from the National
Gallery, so I lucked out. The Metro does a good job of adding trains
right at the stadium, but doesn't follow up with more transfer trains,
especially on the busiest route, which I believe is the Red line (at
least for event attendees heading home.) They do better for events at
the Verizon Center, since it sits on top of the Gallery Place
crossroads station.

No arena will ever match MSG for non-auto travel. Right on top of
Penn Station, with multiple subway lines. Once they finish their
renovations, and make it easier to exit the actual building, it'll be
even better. The only real problem remaining is having to watch the
Knicks!
