| Why are the A's going to pay Houston Street $3.3 million for the 2008
season? He was in only 48 games last year, and was shaky in most. Why
mollycoddle parasitic ballplayers? Pay them the minimum, and if they
don't like that don't sign them. Let them go back to bagging groceries
at Safeway.

Good point. Also, why did the A's have to pick up so much of Kotsay's pay
when shipping him to the Braves while Atlanta has been very vocal about
needing a veteran outfielder to replace Jones? They are over the moon about
this deal, so why did the A's pay for the trade? This is dumbshit Beane!

Friend, you plainly don't like Major League Baseball. The sport you miss
ended in the 1970s. Accept it, or get a new passtime, because those days
aren't coming back.

It's about time that owners learned they don't have to sit still for
lazy ballplayers and their communist union. There's no dearth of kids
who want to play ball for the minimum wage. To hell with their
demands. Sign kids off the street. Most of them will give you better
performance than the bloated union athletes. >> Stay informed about: Street Extortion |

Shooty, I actually agree with you to an extent. But it's pasttime for
baseball, and passtime for football.
The people that enjoyed Major League Baseball in the 70's or 80's shouldn't
be out on their ear just because stupid businessmen that run MLB today.
Sure, it's disappointing to see undeserving players get MILLIONS beyond
their worth when we see only major markets with the stars on the field while
we play $15 for parking. Yes, I miss the old days, but they weren't that
long ago. And as you suggested Shooty, I just might find another
"passtime"(sic), but the BIG question to you Shooty, is that good for
baseball, while NFL has become America's "passtime", when it should have
been maintained by BASEBALL. Shooty, that is THE question!

NASCAR is probably a better sport than football and baseball combined
for attendance at the track or television viewing. It's because the
drivers aren't afraid to take a chance with their lives, unlike
baseball, where the parasitic players have all the courage of ballet
dancing girls. Even American football, which once was a collision
sport, is becoming sissified. Let's get rid of pampered athletes.
There are plenty more willing to play much harder, put their lives on
the line for far less money. Let's let them. To hell with communist
unions. >> Stay informed about: Street Extortion |

Sadly, the game wrab truly yearns for is still 10 years in the future.

Even better would be gladiatorial contests with beasts, such as the
one at Fleishaker Zoo recently. Unfortunately for the Bay Area sports
world that took place at twilight on Christmas, with no real
audience. Let's let everyone enjoy. >> Stay informed about: Street Extortion |

Uh... yeah.

Yeah, Street was hurt and not rock solid, but he's an established MLB
closer, and that's the going rate for closers in similar situations, so
any arbitration results would have been similar, if not more. Plus,
avoiding arbitration avoids hard feelings from both sides, and a happy
player is usually a better player.
Kotsay is still questionable health-wise, and they weren't going to pay
him to stay home, and he really wasn't going to contribute to the next
(hopefully) good team as he had only one year left on his contract, so
he'd have just been wasting a roster space that a younger player could
use to the team's benefit... and they got something back for him that
might just pan out. As much as I like Kotsay, even if Devine doesn't
pan out, this one is addition by subtraction.
Geez, people complain when they don't spend money frivolously to keep a
player, then whine when they spend money with a long-term goal in mind.
Make up your minds, people.
Hey, Nic, I never did get with you about our bet last year. What's yer

Dave - I think your PC clock is off, unless I'm wrong, your post of 1/20
only
showed up today.
My e-mail address may be found by looking at the properties of this e-mail
and delete remove. I can't remember the bet itself, but I remember we bet on
something. I am of course willing to pay up if I lost! : )

I was trying out a free news server, and this was one where you
definitely get what you pay for. Sometrimes my posts would show up
right away, and sometimes they'd take a day, or a couple times even 3
days, to show up. >> Stay informed about: Street Extortion |
