The Yankees replaced three consecutive pennant winning managers
(Stengel, Houk, Berra) and hired one (Johnny Keane). The runner-up
manager for the pennant managed the next year's All-Star game in each
case. There have been other cases of the pennant winning manager
not available for the All-Star game, but none come to mind at the moment.
Danny Murtaugh - Pirates
Jim Frey - Royals
Tommy Lasorda - Dodgers
