In my local listings, FOX has the game scheduled for 8:00 to 11:00.

Fox had the BROADCAST scheduled from 8:00 to 11:00 Eastern. First pitch was
scheduled at 8:42 Eastern.

Hmm. The official schedule had first pitch at 5:42 - presumably the
Mays tribute took longer than anticipated.

Did they really expect the broadcast to be completed two hours and
eighteen minutes after the first pitch?

You didn't actually think the first pitch would be at 8 p.m., did you?

Fox's All-Star COVERAGE was scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

I think there were two things at work there. One, he didn't want to
run out of players. 2002 is still recent enough in everyone's mind
that they don't want to go through that again. Two, as long as he was
going to "snub" somebody by holding him back, he was most comfortable
doing it to his own guy, rather than ruffling feathers in somebody
else's camp. At the time, I took it as a sign of a good relationship
between La Russa and Pujols, that he did it that way because he knew
Albert would understand. After some of the postgame comments, I'm not
so sure.

No, but given that it was slated to end at 11, one might infer
that the first pitch would be at, say 8:30, not almost 9pm.

Changing topic a bit, a few assorted comments on the game:

1. Jeter looked pathetic not getting to Griffey's hit up the middle that
drove in the first run of the game. The ball hung up in the air for about
5 minutes after hitting the mound. You have to at least keep that ball
in the infield to stop the run.

2. What happened with ARod being out by 30 feet on a 2-out single?

3. There has to be something going on between LaRussa and Pujols that
Pujols didn't pinch-hit with 2 out in the ninth. Either that or
LaRussa's been drinking again.
