The Sox are sort of streaky and sometimes they go 9-1 over ten games but in
the next ten they may just as likely go 3-7. I guess they do not have as
much starting pitching as they would like.

I heard some bad man on the sports talk radio saying that he hopes that
Bobby Thigpen's record of 57 saves gets broken this season because Bobby
Thigpen is not a legendary name.

Who cares if he is a legendary name in baseball lore? He did it fair and
square.

Between the streaking Cubs and the streaky White Sox Chicago is baseball
USA.

I'm not sure I care in any event. A lot of those saves that year were
of the cheap variety anyway. Actually that happens a lot. Trevor
Hoffman has 500 saves. That's great, but in the long list of majestic
baseball accomplishments, I'm not sure I'd rate it very high.

Agreed. But there is no point in the radio guy talking bad about Bobby
Thigpen just because he did not have a stellar fifteen year career. A
season record is a season record.

Every sport is unique and different from every other sport. The unique
thing about baseball is that they play a ton of games and a good player
plays a ton of seasons. Statistics matter in baseball moreso than in any
other sport.

Bobby Thigpen set the MLB record and he held the record for a while and
radio talk people should not talk bad about him just because he had a short
career and never got to be famous.
