There are a few potential players available in my league for steals. Any
thoughts? Joey Gathright, Chris Duffy, Josh Barfield, Adam Kennedy, Craig
Counsell, Dave Roberts, Corey Patterson. Anyone stick out as a good bet?

I think Gathright is the best bet in that group.

Try Gathright or Barfield first. If they stall grab one of the others.

I take it that you'll also get the other stats (BA, HR, etc...) for the
player as well.

I picked up Dave Roberts as my lone reserve OF (start 3 OF, with 1 res OF)
in case I need steals...IIRC, Roberts was a reserve most of the past two
seasons, and is slated as the everyday CF for SD this season...if he plays
in 150 games, he'll probably wind up around .270, 5 HR's, 60 RBI's, 80 Runs,
and 30-50 SB's potentially.

Craig Counsell was hurt in ST and is moving from 2b to SS, so he'll provide
you with some flexibility there...he's gotta be close to 37, so his age and
health might become an issue...plus he could get benched quickly if his
hitting drops off like it did with the Brewers in '04. But he is slated to
start. He had 26 SB's in 150 games last year...I think his injury was to
his shoulder, so at least that won't impede his running.

Josh Barfield is a rookie, so it is hard to say how much he'll
play...especially if his BA starts off slow...a gamble.

Gathright is reserve behind Baldelli, so not worth considering until he's
starting. Duffy will bat towards the bottom of the order, AFAIK, so they
might send him more due to having week hitters following...but he'll likely
not get that many runs.

Overall, I like Roberts...his 23 SB's last year came in just 115 games and
411 AB's...also had 65 runs...figure a 20% bump possible if he plays around
140 games...that would mean 27 SB's and 78 runs.

Gathright is starting this week, because Baldelli is not ready to play the
field yet. I am considering Roberts also, but he has been injury prone as of
late. I think it's a big "IF" that he will play 140 games this year.

I think you are right...I read somewhere that he's getting the nod for now
due to Cameron (I think?) being hurt...and that CF may cause a flare up in
his tender hammy.
