Somebody said Sexson "is not a positive on this team and he should be
dumped."

Not a positive? Please. Just imagine if Seattle had Barry Bonds.

Besides, who else can hit home runs for the Mariners?

I don't trust Beltre and Ichiro hits a homer every full moon.

You NEED a big bat. Besides, when it comes to homers, he's our only hope

I'm not sure what you mean here? Are you saying that if Seattle had Barry
Bonds they'd be much better off? Then, yes we agree.

Bonds .455/.486/.941
Sexson .296(!!!)/.448/.744

No, you don't *need* a big bat. First, you need players who don't make
outs. Secondly, you need players who get the most mileage out of each of
their opportunities. Usually these types of players are big bats, but
Sexson:

1) Makes outs at an enormous rate
2) Is one of the worst 1Bs in baseball (4th worst by my last measure)

Bonds has the respect of the pitchers of the National League. Sexton has
the respect
of no pitcher. If Sexton is our only hope, we are done for the year.

I do not think you know the game. Sorry

One thing I have noticed about Richie Sexson
is in certain KEY situations he is very dangerous to opposing teams. In
several games this season, they have walked batters on base just so they
could pitch to Sexson, ostensibly because they base their decision on the
fact that he does not have a great batting average or on base
percentage. However, when they load the bases and he comes up to bat he
just about "licks his chops" when he sees this situation......even when
there are only two runners on base he is dangerous. One bad pitch, and
BOOM! it is over the fence. It is just a
hunch on my part, but I don't think teams will load the bases anymore
when he comes up to bat. They will probably just elect to pitch to him
with just one runner on base from now on.
His ability to hit is reduced when only one runner or none are present
when he comes up to bat.Just an observation on my part. You can't
just go by the numbers only.

I do not have the stats: how many SF does Sexson have? What is his
BA with the bases loaded? With men in scoring position?

I really think that he can only hit mistakes. When he comes up with
men in scoring position, it meas the pitcher is shakey and would be prone
to throw a bad pitch.

He made six mill last year and 13 mill this year. Is his performance twice
as good as last year?

I never said Richie Sexson's overall performance was good.*I* just
observed in a certain key situation,he is dangerous and other teams will
soon realize that and avoid pitching to him in those situations.
No,his performance to date overall does not merit the salary he is
getting in my humble opinion.

I really do not think that Sexson will strike fear in the hearts of opposing
pitchers.
