We've all heard those common baseball words, terms, phrases, and
expressions during televised ball games, player interviews, and
pre-game and post-game shows; we read them in the sports magazines and
newspaper columns; we even see them being demonstrated when we attend
games in person at the ballpark. For instance, we all know what a
"double play" is and that "hot corner" is the nickname for third base.
But what if ... there were other meanings for baseball terms?
Are the New York Yankees really an historic baseball franchise?
Or are they actually those grounds keepers in any ballpark who must
tug and pull and "yank" at the ropes to uncoil the tarp onto the
infield grass during a rain delay?
Is the seventh inning stretch really the period between the top and
bottom of the seventh inning when spectators at a baseball game stand
up to stretch?
Or is it actually that cool, classy, chauffeur-driven limousine that
pulls up to drop off V.I.P's?
