I was just driving home and pessimistically waiting for the K on the 0 and
2. Boom! Yup, I knew all the time.

What a clutch hit! If Loney doesn't get a hit, we leave the
bases loaded again and were still down by 2. And to see the
Cubbie fans totally deflated - that was just awesome.

I watched James swing at two horrible pitches and started
thinking that perhaps Nomar should be brought in to replace
James for his bat. Then... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!
Unbelievable. Grand slam! Manny's homer looked like he
took the ball right out of the dirt, the pitch was so low.
The guy is just totally incredible.

Lowe also pitched a very respectable game, keeping the ball
well away from the Chicago hitters and giving them nothing
good to swing at.

I thought it was a brilliant move on Torre's part to bring
Greg Maddox in to releive. With a 5 run lead, using Maddox,
and then Broxton to close, saves Saito to be fresh if he is
needed in tomorrow's game.

Players of the game, Loney and Lowe.

Mark

The brilliance was mitigated by first warming Saito up with a runner
on in the 8th, and then having him start warming up again with a
runner on in the 9th. The 8th was understandable - but with a 5 run
lead, he should have been anchored to his seat for a while longer at
least in the 9th, since there are doubts about him pitching on back
to back days.
