"The year The Yankees Lost the Pennant" is an obvious example.

Do any of you know of any good books with baseball SCIFI or horror in
them?

One I know:

If you can access this you can see some of this illustrated.

OK, I've never really read a copy of THE HAUNT OF FEAR 19. It hit the
stands in the heyday of EC comics, way back in 1953. That was 14 years
before I was even born. But sometime in 1979, a mere two panels from
that comic reached across the decades and really got me. The story was
Jack Davis' "Foul Play!," a revenge drama where the good guys (!)
punish the bad guy by chopping him up and playing baseball with his
body. His arms and legs are the bats, his intestines are the baselines,
and his head...well, you can guess. Wertham reprinted two panels in
SEDUCTION OF THE INNOCENT, and the OVERSTREET PRICE GUIDE reprinted the
same ones, which is where my innocent pre-teen eyes saw 'em.

I was upset for weeks. No kidding. Now that's a comic!

_______________________________________________________________________________

I read a story in Sports Illustated about a guy who went 4-4 every
gamed until the fans and the commisioner sickened of it.

I read a story in a hardcover book about an apparent space alien aided
by the most peculiar looking eyes.

I read a comic book story written years before the Astrodome about
where at the conclusion of the world series a bunch of space aliens
showed up, dome the stadium with a force field not allowing entrance to
or exit, and challenged the winners to a worlds' series.

Anybody know of especially any hardcover novels or collections of
stories with some or all lik the above?

It looks if in that comic book issue's cover gives the term
"doubleheader" a new meaning:)

I originally saw this story in Fredric Wertham's "Seduction of the
Innocent" did not see the cover of the original comic book until now.

While this selection might not fit nicely into either of those
categories, the Robert Coover book "The Universal Baseball Association,
Inc., J. Henry Waugh, Prop." is very very bizarre... and may be of some
interest.

Brittle Innings Michael Bishop Perhaps it is more fantasy than SCIFI or
horror, but it is a great novel anyways. I think there is a baseball
time travel novel. The title is something like "If I never get back".
Dont recall the author.

In the collection _Departures_ by Harry Turtledove there are a couple
of baseball-themed short stories.

SCIFI: Any press release from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays front office about
how good the team will be next year.

HORROR: Ray's box scores from this year.

W.P Kinsella writes fantasy and sort of horror based stuff.

I listened to "The Dixon Cornbelt League: And Other Baseball Stories"
on audiotape on an extended trip once, and it was oddly entertaining,
weird and different. There's at least one werewolf story.

Another is "The Iowa Baseball Confederacy" about a 2000 inning game.

I haven't read it or seen the whole movie, but I think his book
"Shoeless Joe" was what "Field of Dreams" was based on.
