What was up with LaRussa keeping Pujols on the bench all night? Was he
saving him up for something special, or resting him?

Tony says he was saving him in case he needed a player later. Leyland held
out Mike Young who was last year's All-Start MVP for what appears to be the
same reason.

I wonder what he was waiting for, if being down a run with 2 outs and
the bases loaded isn't the right situation. It seems pretty likely
that the game would be over either way after rowand's at bat

I couldn't watch the game, storm knocked out our power...but hearing the
recap this morning it seems 2 out, bases loaded in the 9th was a custom
made situation for Albert P. Was there a reason explained on the
broadcast (matchups, etc)?

As far as I can recall, they just kept blathering about how LaRussa had
only Pujols left on the bench. Looks like he was saving him as an ace
in the hole, and didn't put him on the table in time.

Or, there's still the possibility he was thinking more about the Cards
than he was about the NL All-Stars, at least part of the time.

Pujols claims to be furious about it.
