How can you be us six runs and walk three batters in a row???
It is unbelievable what these clowns pull off. When the
guy walked two in a row I would have taken him out and kicked
his butt in the dugout.

There's vintage Jerry Narron, isn't it? A chance to actually be tough
rather than pretend he's tough and he doesn't go get the guy (anyone
recall Piniella nearly blowing a gasket earlier this year in a game with
the Cubs when our old pal Dempster wasn't throwing strikes...and he went
out and told him in no uncertain terms to start doing so?).

Not to mention that it is another example of his total cluelessness
about running a pitching staff. He routinely leaves guys in he shouldn't
and pulls guys he shouldn't.

I'll disagree about the cluelessness of this. When you are 6 runs up is
exactly a good time to use an ineffective guy and keep him out there for
a bit. Obviously, it went on too long, but if you can't use a guy then,
you get him off your 25 man roster and bring up somebody that can pitch
then.

That's my problem. He's got options. Throw him back and bring up another.

But the fact it went on too long is part of my point, David. I said
nothing about using the guy, I said he leaves guys too long or pulls
them too soon, which is what you just said, as well.

And then he's got a guy on the roster who kicked serious ass at AAA
that he hasn't used at all yet (McBeth).

Speaking of Sweet Lou, guess who got himself tossed for four games
over the weekend?

I'd like to note that Pinella, the fiery, ass-kicking manager that so
many think the Reds need, has guided a more talented team to a 23-31
record - just three games better than the Reds and still 7.5 games out
of first place. Doesn't matter how much you yell or how many bases you
throw, you can't win games if your players don't perform.

Eh, I predicted it in the annual spring poll.

Yeah, but the data is heavily skewed by the fact that this is the Cubs
we're talking about here. Once you've had the stink of the Cubs
smeared on you, it's difficult to get it off. Piniella had no idea
what he was buying into, and neither did Soriano.

The only part of the game that I saw live was the 9th inning. Prior
to that, I had the radio on.

I doubt that Harang was throwing at Bennett simply because I can't
think of why he would do so.

Finally, I'm not certain to what you're referring with regard to
"schtick", but I'm guessing that you're talking about LaRussa's
post-game remarks. I saw part of his post-game press conference,
which is carried after all home games on Fox Sports Net Midwest, and
he said words to the effect of the following -- "There's no reason for
a major league pitcher to 'lose one' up around somebody's head. I've
been saying this for almost as long as I've been managing. And if a
pitcher, whether he's on my team or the other team, does that he
should be suspended two weeks for the first time, a month for the
second offense and the entire season for a third, and then I think
that you'd see a decline in how often it happened."

And having listened to him talk about this for 12 seasons now and
having read his book, no, I don't think it's schtick for LaRussa --
he's a true believer in this. He gets really pissed off when a
pitcher comes in near a guy's head. He got visibly angry at Julian
Tavarez a couple of years ago when he beaned Mike Piazza.
