Through 7 spring games, who's hot & who's not:
Hot Hitters: Almost everybody !! Of course the hitters are usually
ahead of the pitchers this time of year ...
Inge .444
Sanchez .467
Monroe .278, 5 RBI
Pudge .316
Torres .375
Pena, .313. 5 RBI
Vina .313
Young .333
Logan .333
Guillen .357
Shelton .429
Infante .750
Then there's Higgy .083 but a big hit against the Yanks last night
Munson .167 - He's still a slow starter.
Klassen .222 Morris .167 - No surprises here.
Hot Pitchers:
Patterson 0.00
Cornejo 0.00
Ledezma 0.00
Yan 1.80
Johnson 1.80
Not so hot:
Anderson 12.27
Roney 13.50
German 11.25
Eckenstahler 13.50
Bumatay 2 IP, 9 runs allowed
Assuming Monroe & DiFilice aren't traded, you have at most 3 bench
spots left. I'm still leaning toward Inge, Infante, and Shelton.
Torres would be nice as a pinch runner, but there's no room for him.
You can say Inge can't hit, but Morris/Klassen/Abernathy doesn't
exactly strike fear into anyone's hearts ...
Starters - Probably will be Johnson, Bonderman, Maroth, Cornejo, Yan
Bullpen - I would go with Rodney, Patterson, Walker, Ledezma,
Robertson, and Levine. I think Anderson needs to go to AAA and become
a starting pitcher, IMHO ...

Some of these numbers could be very misleading. How many @bats do these
guys have? >> Stay informed about: Roster Take #3 |

Also misleading, being that the statistics are 7 games into Spring Training.
I'll wait until 7 games into the regular season and if the stats are
anywhere near approaching those numbers, I'll get excited.

>How could Anderson possibly become a starter? He HAD one pitch, an
>overwhelming fastball, that has disapperared.
That's exactly why his closing days are done. He needs to learn how
to pitch and change speeds now.
> He does have a slider, but has a real hard time with consistently throwing it for strikes.
>Trying to teach him a curve and a change up would be the only possible
>way he could be a starter, that's IF he could learn them,
I thought he had a knuckle curve now ?? In any case he's going to
have to adapt somehow. Look at Dan Quisenberry, he blew out his arm,
learned to pitch underhanded, and the rest ... is history.

While possibly misleading it also could kill some of the theories
like Inge and Sanchez can't hit. That would be horrible for those of you
who trounce these young men. Tram will give the bubble people and those
with something to prove a chance and probably the numbers my go down,
but these players will be given a chance to earn a spot.
By the way, De Felice has to play a certain amount of games before he
could be traded since he was signed as a free agent

Frank Tanana also had to learn to be a pitcher, but he did. I know
the chances are not as good for Anderson since his fastball has been
brought back into the normal range of velocity, but give him a chance
instea of crucifying him as you seem to have done with other players.
Why do you guys make these people their whipping boys. Give them a
chance. Perhaps Anderson needs to go to Toledo not only to find a
pitching style he can use, but to get away from the so-called fans who
want him to quit because he lost his fastball. He and the other
players need our confidence behind them and not our scathing comments
that can kill a spirit. This game is much more a game of confidence and
inspiration than the perfect arm or bat or glove. Give the team some
hope and encouragement. That is what we fans can supply

These were the stats I was referring to. Did Infante only play one game and
get three hits or is he all of a sudden a powerhouse? I don't recall Inge
or Sanchez even being close to this last year. I was hoping that they have
improved, although I wonder how much improved since this is only ST and
there is no telling how they will perform against the leagues best game in
and game out.

I think that Anderson can learn. His fastball made him
intellectually lazy. The Tigers should never have made him
a relief pitcher at that age. Send him to Toledo as a
starting pitcher and make him learn what it is to be a pitcher. >> Stay informed about: Roster Take #3 |
