The Rose Award goes to Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox, who went
two-for-five with four RBI and scored one run in a 6-5 win over the
Oakland Athletics.

In the earliest major league opener, the Red Sox get off to a good
start in defense of their World Series title.

The Rose Committee is checking to see if there's any truth to the
rumor that the Red Sox may have spied on other teams during spring
training.

Pete would have surely enjoyed watching Manny stand at the plate
admiring his hit in extra innings. Whatever flaws Rose had, and he had
plenty, he understood getting out of the box at the dead run. Some of
Rose's admirers give lip-service to hustle but all they can do is
count hits.

Well, at least he appears to have more class than Ann Heche....
I still contend that, sexual preference not withstanding, Hollywood is a
