The Rose Award goes to Jay Gibbons of the Baltimore Orioles, who went
three-for-five with five RBI and scored two runs in a 13-5 win over the
Toronto Blue Jays.

With this win, the Orioles bounced back from consecutive shutout losses.

for my information, what the heck is the Rose award?

Many years ago, while I still lived in Ohio, there was a sportswriter
who was very down on (now) HOF'er Larry Doby. His rap on Doby was that
he drove in the 100 least important runs in the season (He'd drive
in 3 runs when Cleveland would win 7 - 1 and go 0-fer and strand 5 runners
when they'd lost 3-2) --- I think he called him Mr. Automatic Transmission
(no clutch).

Cheers,

Mitch Edelman
