The Rose Award goes to Rod Barajas of the Toronto Blue Jays, who went
two-for-four with five RBI and scored two runs in a 6-3 win over the
Philadelphia Phillies.

Barajas hit two homers, one of them a grand slam.

The radio announcers pointed out that his 5 RBI in one game were
half of the 10 he hit all last year in a Phillies uniform (in 48
games).

Chollie seemed as surprised as anyone in a TV interview covering the
subject.

Something along the line of never seeing Barajas hit a dinger over the right
field wall, maybe?

It's fuzzy, anyhow.

How come this NG is so dead? Comcast's USENET service is down, is that why?

Speaking of Barajas, two points I want to make. He looked pretty young on
his 5 RBI TV interview. Not at all old and washed up. And, 2ndly, if you've
seen that video where Randy Johnson kills a dove or a seagull or some winged
bird, that's Barajas behind the plate.

Phillies still over .500, right?

Let's hope Meyers finds some confidence tonight against the
"lowly" Nats (scare quotes because they're only 5 games behind
the Phils).

(Or whatever it is that he's been lacking.)

I was talking about this:
http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080518&con...t_id=27

Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins said his left ankle is "fine"
after he appeared to tweak it during Sunday's game against the
Blue Jays.

Rollins had to range far to his left fielding Alex Rios'
up-the-middle grounder in the fourth inning. Two innings later,
he awkwardly avoided an inside pitch from Jason Frasor, and
television replays caught him grimacing. He eventually drew a
walk and scored on Chase Utley's double.

Rollins explained that he felt better after walking around for a
few minutes after scoring the run. He stayed in the game and had
another at-bat, grounding into a double play against Roy
Halladay.

But I guess he really is okay (knock on wood).

>I think Rollins was Billy Wagner's child's favorite player. It
>is what it is.

Wonder how that's going for him (the kid).

>Me? I'm in Willow Grove PA. (Not S Jersey as speculated b4)

It was merely an example, I assure you. I grew up on the other
side of Philly, in the Wilmington, DE area.

-smo (Hockessin, DE, if you must know)

The announcers also pointed out that Bill's wife likes to do it while
eating carrots.

Uh-Oh.
I sense some forthcoming cucumber jokes.
