The Rose Award goes to Rose Award Hall-of-Famer and Lifetime Rose
Award recipient Tim Donaghy. Donaghy, the disgraced NBA referee who
got involved with gambling and fixing NBA games, claimed that Game 6
of the 2002 Western Conference finals between the Kings and Lakers was
impacted by the actions of two of the three referees who worked it.
Donaghy did not identify the referees in his letter filed in the U.S.
District Court in Brooklyn, New York. Commented NBA Commissioner
David Stern: "He turned on basically all of his colleagues in an
attempt to demonstrate that he is not the only one who engaged in
criminal activity," Stern said Tuesday. "The U.S. Attorney's office,
(as well as) the FBI, have fully investigated it, and Mr. Donaghy is
the only one who is guilty of a crime. And he's going to be sentenced
for that crime, regardless of these desperate attempts to implicate as
many people as he can."
The Rose Committee salutes Rose Award Hall-of-Famer and Lifetime Rose
Award recipient Tim Donaghy for another well-deserved Rose Award. His
actions, once again, truly demonstrate the heart, soul, morals, and
mindset of the namesake of the Rose Award. We salute you, Tim
Donaghy!
