The Rose Award goes to Pat Burrell of the Philadelphia Phillies, who
went two-for-three with four RBI and scored two runs in a 12-5 win over
the Florida Marlins.

Burrell hit a two-run homer and the Phillies end a five-game losing
streak.

Hey, I have a question for you. Nobody seems to like your thing so why,
exactly, do you keep posting it? Day after day people insult you and
nobody acts like you're providing a useful service.

So why, day after day, year after year, are you still at it? Are you
posting to bug other people? Wouldn't it be out of your system by now?
I mean...it's been an awfully long time for what seems to be no real
purpose.

This idiot is a major reason why I rarely read/post at r.s.b anymore.
This kind of thing kills off a board, and is further proof that
registration is a necessary evil in the online world.

This is the same guy who graffitis your storefront, spams your inbox,
vandalizes your car, just because he can.

If you don't post at r.s.b, then Maynard wins

I'm pretty sure rosecomm isn't Maynard, but they
are spiritual bunk buddies (maybe not just spiritual,
either).

The purpose is very real. To honor the player who achieved 4,256 hits
in major league baseball. Something Ruth, Aaron, Gehrig, Robinson,
etc., couldn't do.

It's not that the outstanding player of the day has to hit home runs.
But if he does, more power to him.

so why then do you insist on "honoring" players who hit
home runs? Rose was and is a pathetic example of a home
run hitter (160 HR in 14053 AB). so "honor" the man for
what he was: a singles hitter.

You misspelled "10328 outs".

I think that you're missing the really important point. Note that he
doesn't say that the purpose of the award is to honor the recipient; it's
to honor Rose. I guess that he thinks that by constantly mentioning Rose
in the same post as honest, hard working players who didn't sell out their
sport by betting on their own teams he can somehow make us forget what a
jerk Rose was.

Nonsense. He has recognized Barry Bonds as well as "hard working
players who didn't sell out the game."

Barry Bonds cheats. Pete Rose never cheated the game once.
