The Rose Award goes to Carlos Guillen, who went three-for-four with four RBI
and scored two runs in a 8-7 win over the Texas Rangers.

I just gotta ask... Why do you continue to support a
person who not only broke the cardnial rule in baseball,
but then lied about it for 14 years?

That would appear to be sufficient, in your mind, to exempt him from
baseball's rules.
What is the threshold for this exemption? 4,000 hits? 3,000? How few would
be few enough that he would have to follow the rules like everyone else?

While I do not condone what Pete did and I feel it can not be tolerated and
I fully realize 1MF stated "baseball rules" and that is key here. Let's
look at some other facts here. If a non-baseball player bets in Las Vegas
this is legal and there is no law broken. Pete bet and is busted big time
and I do agree he broke MLB rules
At the same time, currently, the MLB allows a player to test positive for
steroids more than once before any action is taken. Yet if anyone of us
were caught doing steroids we would be on our way to jail.
What is fair here...

The question is thought-provoking, but irrelevant to the Rose discussion.
Just because one rule is unfairly applied (if you accept that premise)
doesn't mean another rule - which clearly *is* fairly applied - should be
ignored for certain players. That is the epitome of unfairness.
Invoking the example of the non-player going to Vegas is also irrelevant.
Indeed, Rose also broke no law (at least by betting) and no one says he did.
He broke a rule that he had a contractual obligation to follow, and he is
suffering the proscribed punishment he knew about before he ever did it.
Nothing else matters here. Not what happens to non-athletes. Not the steroid
rule. Not his hit total. Nothing.
Baseball does a lot of things wrong. One of the few things baseball does
consistently right is enforce the rule against betting on baseball - and yet
people whine and complain, no one more than Pete Rose, who continues every
day to get what he deserves.

I'm the last person who's going to defend Rose on character issues, but just
as a matter of fact, only 194 of his hits came when he was his own manager.
During the time he was manager, he hit .262 with 115 RBI in 1,016 at-bats,
so if 450 at-bats is a normal season, he was averaging around 50 RBI per
season, usually hitting in the two hole.
Not the greatest numbers ever, obviously, but not as bad as you made them
sound.

Instead of allowing Rose into the hall of fame, they should kick out
anyone who bet, threw a game or cheated...

Did the rules of baseball strip Rose of his 4,256 hits?

No, so what's your point? He still has his 4,256 hits. Is there something
else you think he's entitled to?

For some reason I thought he had gotten more than that and, in fact, I
thought he needed that time as manager to surpass the record. I did a
bunch of research on this a couple of years ago, but have long since
lost it, but I'll take your word for it.

You weren't wrong about that. Rose ended up with 4,256 hits. Cobb had 4,191.
So when Rose became the Reds' manager he only had 4,060. He was 131 hits shy
at that point.
Had Rose stayed with the Expos for the entire 1984 season, he appeared to be
on a pace for about another 50 hits that season, but after he joined the
Reds he only played in another 26 games. Astoundingly, he got 35 hits in
those 26 games, hitting .365!

Is there a rule that states if a player has so many hits that he is exempt from
