The more correct statement is that any clutch hitting ability is small
enough and sample sizes are small enough that it is dwarfed by overall
skill level, making it nearly impossible to identify clutch hitters.
Therefore, it's best to assume that any given player will perform
equally well in the clutch as he does overall.

That's not true at all.

(1) If you throw a fair coin and have 10 heads in a row, it doesn't make
it any more likely to come up tails the next time. There is no such
thing as a law of small numbers or balancing out in the short term to
make an average look nice. If you believe the Yanks have been lucky,
that doesn't mean they are due to be unlucky.

(2) Perhaps part of the reason the Yanks have won as much as they have
because they are good. Good teams exist.

The team with the best pitching staff doesn't always win the
championship, but the team that is pitching the best going into the
postseason usually wins. If the pitching is healthy, then your chances
improve.
