WHY on earth is this guy still our closer??????? He is a below average middle
reliver at best. Literally any other guy in the Expos bullpen would be a
better closer, especially Ayala or Cordero. WHY WHY WHY???

Although most of us (including myself) might not like Rocky Biddle as a
pitcher, we seem to fail to give him the credit he does deserve.

He did make 9 saves out of 10 opportunities, with most of them being off of
only one run leads.

A lot of you complain about his high ERA. Well looking at his game log
stats, the majority of his earned runs have come from non-save opportunity
games (including his big 5 run game). During his save opportunity games, he
has allowed just 3 runs (2 of them from his one blown save).

So yeah, even though I panic everytime he steps on the mound, and even
though I'd much rather have Chad Cordero as our closer, I still acknowledge
the good Rocky has done for the team.

Good for our team ????? Are you an Expo fan? I agree completely with the
first post. Biddle has entered games that the Expos should have won by a
country mile and because he such an awful pitcher, blew leads of 4 runs or
more. That's the only reason why his Save/BS ratio looks respectable.

You don't stick a guy with an ERA over 7.00 to be your closer, you demote
him to the minors. It ain't rocket science.

In 10 save opportunities, Biddle has a 3.00 ERA and 0.89 WHIP [(Walks +
Hits) / Innings Pitched]. In his eight non-save appearances, he has
given himself a 14.75 ERA and 2.62 WHIP.

Cordero isn't the closer because he has 9 walks in nine appearances.

The Expos are 9-8 in May. Frank knows what he is doing by sticking with
Biddle.

It's called a fluke. There's no way Biddle can continue that type of trend
throughout an entire season. I'll bet Biddle has just been lucky and
entered save situations with the bottom order due up.

Well said.

Biddle might not be the perfect closer, but he by far the best we have. And
certainly better than average.
