The Sun unraveled the departure of Matt Riley from the O's: It seems he was
sent ahead to Philadelphia to rest up and prepare for his next start,
because it appears he was returning to his partying ways. But, instead of
sitting tight in Philly, he was trying to commute back and forth to
Baltimore over that time, got stuck in holiday traffic the day of his
start, was late, unprepared or rested - and got shelled, which forced the
O's to burn up their bullpen.

He was summarily demoted - but the union has a clause against disciplinary
demotions, so they couched it in other terms.
