Can someone please tell me why Mike continues to play Richie? I have a hard
time understanding how someone can give up the first two months of the
season every year waiting for a batter to hit? I know his defense is good.
But at the expense of producing?

I hear ya.

I'm thinking of offering him a buck for every ball he hits on the first-
base side of second; I keep thinking "next time he tries to pull it and
dribbles a two-hopper to shortstop I'm going to grab his bat and BEAT HIM
WITH IT!"

Remember how Edgar used to take that same pitch and drive it into the alley
in right-center? Lord knows, Richie's strong enough to do that, so WHY
DOESN'T HE?

Gah.

Because beneath the professional exterior, Hargrove is what he always
has been. Not the sharpest pencil in the box.

Sexson has been especially galling this season; if he must be used,
drop him down to the eight spot. Or the bench while better hitters
hit. What a rally-killer!

I agree. I cringe every time he gets up to bat - especially with runners in
scoring position. I wish the Mariners would tell him to stop swinging for
the long ball and get hits. He has enough power to still get doubles,
triples, and the occasional home run. But he keeps saying that the brass
brought him into hit homers and to sacrifice the average. What a waste of a
position in the line-up. And then you add Beltre on top (who at least gets
a hit about 1/4 time more often).

Broussard's average is sooo much higher than his...but Sexon did come
up with a key hit last night.

If the rest of the team can consistently produce perhaps Richie will
lighten up...or perhaps if he's sat down for a week it'll get through
his head he has to start hitting for average.

0 for 4 today....
Broussard 3 - 5....

and Ichiro gets a 2-run homerun... why couldn't he have done that a
few innings ago when the bases were loaded...

Ah well...

Because they are paying him a wad of money and are hoping to get their
money's worth. Of course they are not and I think he should be extremely
embarrassed. Has he been interviewed this year?

I had to love a magazine I bought before the season started. The words on
Sexton I remember the most were: "He has several holes in his swing."

If his hitting beats a team, the other manager ought to sit his pitcher for
a week.

I think his defense is average MLB.

I don't like the I agree posts on newsgroups, BUT, I agree that Sexson
is overpaid, overplayed, and overdue to be benched.

A late response, but I note that Sexson is improving. Of course right
now he can go one-for-four and increase his BA.
