This year Smoke Laval, Wiederhold, and Autry (the three stooges) did
not wait until the CWS to pull their annual el-flop-o. They got beat by
a bunch of emerging stars and a masterful coach from Rice at the
regional level, in front of the home team Alex Box Stadium fans and AD
Stanley "Skip" Bertman.
Of course, SOME of the Tiger fans may refer to Rice as something that
falls out of a tall cajun's behind after a jambalaya tail-gate party,
and STILL OTHERS might think they were really just some talented high
schoolers, coached by a guy that looks like a bow legged reject from a
B grade vampire movie, but we will leave that for the AM talk shows.
Suffice to say, Rice beat LSU twice to advance out of the Baton Rouge
Regional, I tip my hat to them for a job well done, and wish them luck
at the next level. Their Coaches, Players, and Fans conducted
themselves with class and good sportsmanship all week.
As I predicted in another post, they certainly had an easy road to
Omaha.
It will probably be a few years before LSU hosts or plays in another
regional, because next year, they have very few stars coming back, and
I predict mass transfers and defections if the present coaching regime
stays in place.
The fans at Alex Box are great, and it is college baseball's greatest
atmosphere, but who wants to play for a coaching staff, where
individual players get worse every year, not better.
Geaux Tigers!!
WDS from Baton Rouge
