So what's the big hubbub about his celebration? I didn't see anything out
of the ordinary. Tejada was apparently so upset he was hysterical. The AP
article said Tejada was crying.

Did I miss something, or is this The Biggest Overreaction Ever?

Apparently Lowe looked at the Oakland dugout after the final out and
grabbed his crotch. He told reporters later that he didn't remember
what he did during the celebration but that if he did make the gesture
he shouldn't have.

The article uses the word "obsene gestures" but I didn't see any. I just
saw him pump his fist in the air. If he did something, the camera must not
have been on him at the time -- or maybe it just happened after the initial
part of the celebration when I wasn't watching as closely

Why is everyone jumping to assume Tejada was crying because of the
celebrations? His season is over, and his career in Oakland may be over
now too. I think that's a more likely cause for tears than someone
taunting.

You could, if you were of a mind to, see Lowe's gesture when he was facing
the A's dugout as being toward his, um, below the belt. I think he was just
pumping his fist and brought it down in that direction, but when I saw it
after I heard about the complaints, I could see how they could have
intepreted it otherwise. Lowe issued a sort of non-denial denial, like "I
didn't mean to do anything offensive but if I did I apologize," so who
knows?

Earlier in the game when he struck out this guy is screaming M-F-er
clearly audible on TV and then he complains about Lowe's gesture
because his kids are at the park? I can't see siding with Tejada on
that one.

I couldn't tell from the replay whether or not that's what he did. It
was that or he hit himself in the thigh in exuberance.

Cheers,

It sounds a lot like TBOE to me. I didn't notice Lowe doing anything more
than jumping up and down. Maybe it's a Fox-engineered BOE -- like Manny
"showboating" after the HR, a notion which would have occurred to
approximately nobody if they hadn't said it first.

If that's the case he's certainly taking out his frustrations on Lowe.

There's no crying in baseball.
