You'd be surprised. Weaver gave Belanger 675 PAs at leadoff
and 1334 batting 2nd.
Used to do it against guys he though Belanger could hit
(Nolan Ryan comes to mind)
This was something Bill James checked out in the early 80s.
Didn't work particularly well. Belanger hit .235/.304 /.302
leadoff and .231/.306/.289
Blair led off a little more than that -- mostly when
Buford or the leadoff hitter du jour wasn't playing.
Worked very badly. .236/.296/.355 in 852 PAs as a
leadoff hitter. Mostly for Weaver.
Harlow regularly led off the one year he was a regular.
And hit .235/.317/.340 as a leadoff hitter.
(Not all of Weaver's leadoff hitters were of this type. Bumbry
was nothing special but Buford was as good as anybody in the
league.)
But despite leading them off (or batting them second),
he'd hit for them if the right situation came up.
Not really an option for Baker.
