I went to the series finale on Sunday and have to say I'm always annoyed
when the opposing team draws enough fans to make it seem like a road game,
but that said, it's nice to sit in a full stadium again. Unfortunately,
the concession stands were completely unprepared for the huge crowds and
by the sixth inning on Sunday, almost all concession stands were out of
bottled water, and several specialty stands (the ice cream and lemonade
stands) were either out of or nearly out of their specialty staples. The
ATM near my section ran out of money during the second inning, while 20+
were in line waiting to get cash.
Thumbs down to the D-Backs' concessionaires for failing to prepare for the
strains placed on them by huge crowds. They had to know based on ticket
pre-sales that the crowds would be huge.
On an unrelated note, it was nice to see the D-Backs pull off a victory
against the Sox, but I couldn't escape the feeling that the Sox beat
themselves more than the D-Backs beat them. The Snakes have a ways to go
before they're at the same level as the Sox.
The Sox played so poorly in the final game that when I saw a kid carrying
a "Red Sox #1" sign after the game, my first thought was, "Really? I
thought they played like #2."
