I turned the channel and caught game 2 late in the game just in time to see
the HUGE strike zone the Boston pitchers are still enjoying from the home
plate umpires. Extremely unwatchable. What a joke.

Feel bad for Rockies... you're going against the cheaters and it's hard to
watch

I'm a Pirates fan, and I noticed this as well!!! I love how the umpire
called many strikes when they were clearly balls and the Fox announcers
are like "oh he caught that one right on the edge of the corner". Then
they show the replay with their ( Fox's ), little pitching box, and you
can see that that the ball was like 3 feet from the edge of the plate,
and then all of a sudden the Fox announcers become dead silent and don't
say a thing, because they know that the WRONG call was made!!!!

But of course the PRO-RedSox announcers won't say anything, because the
RedSox are AMERICAS TEAM, and you can't say anything bad about them, and
EVERYBODY on planet Earth loves the RedSox, because Josh Beckett, Curt
Schilling, Dice K, and all the rest of their god-like pitchers are the
greatest thing sense sliced bread!!!!!

Yes, the RedSox have good pitching, but the RedSox were giving a TON of
calls THEIR WAY last night in which strikes were called but were CLEARLY
BALLS, in which the replays SHOWED all night long, and this is what no
doubt helped them win the game. When the umps give you a 20 x 20 foot
strike box, its not very hard to lose!!!!!

I agree - that graphic is very poor. Pitches thrown across the ouside
edge of the plate from a good overhead view aways appear as balls on
that graphic. It is very misleading.

Funny, as a Bosox fan I felt that there were was a wide strike zone on
both ends, Rockies and BoSox. On Fri, 26 Oct 2007 00:12:22 -0400,

You obviously don't watch much Fox baseball.. Buck and McCarver HATE the
Red Sox. They love the Yankees. Even in the ALCS they were gushing
over the Indians..

That's Fox for you.. Fair and Balanced..

They have been getting that Super Sized strike zone all post-season. It got
so bad, I swore that I must be misinterpreting the little "K" zone graphic
that TBS and Fox have been using this season because SURELY the announcers
would comment on it, considering how bad and how consistently the Sox'
pitchers were getting called strikes that were CLEARLY out of the zone, not
even close.

But yeah, they were called strikes and for some strange reason, the TV
announcers don't make mention of the bad umpiring at all.

I've lost track of how many leadoff walks were ripped from the Sox'
opponents. 70% of leadoff walks score after all.

The problem is that stupid graphic itself. It's wrong about 50% of the
time...and many of the folks watching think it's accurate.

I also licked balls for a small fee.

While I do not believe the Rockies lost last night because of this, I did
see at least a few obvious balls thrown by Red Sox pitchers called strikes.
And it did seem like the strike zone was larger for Schilling than for
Jimenez. But what can you do other than play through it? Maybe it is just
like other sports, especially basketball, where superstars and veterans get
more breaks?

On Manny in particular, they were calling pitches near the ankles strikes.

Maybe, but what I saw was a lot of strikes on the Sox that were balls,
Varitek and Ramariz in particular. It most certainly NOT all on side.
The main complaint I have about umpires in general is inconsistency. If
you're going to call high pitches outside, okay, but be consistent from
batter to batter.
