9 team, mixed, rotisserie, keeper league
Scoring Categories:
Batting: BA, OBP, SLG, R, HR, RBI, E, SB-CS, K
Pitching: ERA, WHIP, W-L, BAA, OBA, K, K/9, S, QS (quality starts)
Middle relievers are more attractive than usual with these categories, and
stats such as SB and saves are not as valuable.
SP: Mike Mussina, Javier Vasquez, Johan Santana, Randy Wolf
RP: Billy Wagner, Matt Mantei, David Riske
Bench: Brett Myers, Rich Harden, Ryan Wagner
C: Joe Mauer
1B: Todd Helton
2B: Jose Reyes
3B: Morgan Ensberg
SS: Nomar Garciaparra
OF: Brian Giles, Bobby Abreu, Miguel Cabrera
DH: Mike Sweeney
U: Phil Nevin, Bernie Williams
Bench: Roberto Alomar, Cliff Floyd, Ramon Castro, Adam Dunn
I took Helton w/the 7th overall pick and missed Prior by one. I like my
pitching staff but have a number of question marks or injury-prone position
players.
A few players not drafted: Freddy Garcia, Zach Day, Edgar Martinez, Chris
Carpenter, J.D. Drew, Ugueth Urbina (is he in Japan yet?)
Thanks, Paul >> Stay informed about: Rate this team? |

Pitching's good, not great.

Ok, I know everybody and their uncle is calling Mauer the 'sleeper', but aren't
there nine catchers better than him? Piazza, Posada, Rodriguez, Lopez, Kendall,
Lieberthal, Varitek, LeCroy, Pierzynski, Phillips & Castro should all be taken
before Mauer.
>1B: Todd Helton

Again, such a well-known 'sleeper', that I wonder why you didn't get one of the
other seven 2Bs that would be better (Soriano, Boone, Kent, Castillo, Vidro,
Giles, Polanco

Miguel Cabrera should not be on anybody's team in this league. At least not
starting. Better options that might still be available are Corey Patterson,
Richard Hidalgo, Milton Bradley or Cliff Floyd.

Ok, you do have Floyd. And Castro.
....
Sit Mauer and Cabrera until you have a reason not to.

Urbina's headed for Cleveland, last I heard. >> Stay informed about: Rate this team? |

Technically, Reyes is only eligible at SS in most leagues the first week (I
have Reyes AND Boone...using Reyes at short...starting Cintron for the first
week in case Reyes is still injured).

I'll concur with the poster who said that there must be 9 C better than
Mauer. Ideally, you would drop Ramon Castro, move Mauer to your bench, and
pick up a better C. Don't drop Mauer just in case he does turn out to be
the next Jason Kendall.

You should be able to upgrade here as well. If nothing else, you should
consider playing Cabrera at 3rd and Floyd in the OF. Ensberg is OK, but he
doesn't have nearly as much upside as a half dozen other 3B.

There is no point whatsoever to keeping Castro around. If you need a backup
C, there will be a dozen floating out there you can pick up. Instead,
consider picking up some high-upside player (Drew, Nen, etc.). >> Stay informed about: Rate this team? |

Believe it or not, these were all taken before I selected Mauer, with the
exception of Castro (who I picked up five rounds later).

All gone in the first six rounds, except for Polanco (who I am not a fan of).
It was Loretta or Reyes, so I took a chance (and technically, he is only a SS
in our league for the first five games - so Alomar is in). I think Reyes will
do alright this year...

I may take everyone's advice here and start Floyd in place of Cabrera. At least
Cabrera has 3B eligibility in case Ensberg falters.
Thanks everyone -

Don't say that.
I have both Nen and Drew from last year in my keeper leauge. I will keep
them at good price *if* they don't start the season on the DL. >> Stay informed about: Rate this team? |
