The Rangers avoided arbitration with right-handed pitcher Joaquin Benoit
after he agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $750,000.
Benoit, 28, was 4-4 with a 3.72 ERA last season in 32 games (nine as a
starter). He was hurt off and on in 2005, missing the first month with
shoulder tendinitis and dealing with elbow tendinitis in his throwing arm at
times as well.
Texas still has seven players eligible for arbitration, including starters
Adam Eaton and Vicente Padilla, 1B Mark Teixeira and OF Brad Wilkerson.
