I think one of the byproducts of the wild card system is that teams keep
clinging to a playoff hope, and wait too long before addressing underlying
needs. The Cubs are a good example of a team that has LOTS of decisions to
make in the offseason, and by not playing youngsters now, they're limiting
the info they'll need come November.
